Israeli police call off dogs after cat manhunt
Israeli
police sent sniffer dogs back to their kennels on Monday
after
calling off a manhunt sparked by what the cat dragged in.
Forensic
tests showed that what police had taken to be a
dismembered
human penis, dragged into a Jerusalem student's
home
through an open window on Sunday by a cat, was in fact a
feline
fetus. "We closed the file after a rapid investigation
revealed
the penis was a fetus," a spokesman at the Abu Kabir
forensic
institute told Reuters. Police had been searching for a
human
body to go with the presumed penis. Media reports
initially
identified the fetus as that of a rat, but a spokesman said
it
was in fact that of a cat.

Surgeons operate to remove two tongues from farmer
Chinese
surgeons operated on a man to remove two of his three
tongues
so that he can eat and speak normally for the first time in
20
years, Xinhua news agency said. Xian Shihua, a 32-year-old
farmer
from the southwestern province of Sichuan, was born with
one
tongue, but a second, smaller one grew when he was five
years
old, and later a third, the official agency said Sunday. "His
largest
tongue was 13 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 4.4 inches
thick,
while the other two were 3.6 inches long and of varying
widths
and thickness," the report added. The operation, carried
out
at the Southwest Military Hospital in Chongqing, enabled
Xian
to speak normally to family and friends and to go off the
liquid
diet that he had subsisted on since childhood.

Lion-walking has risks, southern Spain town finds
Walking pet lions around
the neighborhood can be risky. Two
lions, a male and female,
became agitated while being walked in
the southern Spanish town
of Ceuta early Tuesday and mauled
four women passersby, injuring
three of them critically, a local
official said. A government
statement said the lions, which are 1
and 2 years old, respectively,
were being kept illegally in dog
houses without proper documentation
and would be taken to
separate zoos. It did not
say what would happen to the
unidentified man who was
walking them.

Italian drowns in sewage after pig mishap

19-year-old Italian man drowned in sewage Tuesday after
helping
pull his father out of a cesspit where he had climbed to
rescue
a pig. Andrea Rizzo rushed to his father Maurizio's aid
after
he was overcome by fumes rescuing a pig which had fallen
into
a pit normally covered by a metal grill, firemen said. While a
neighbor
threw a rope, Andrea climbed into the pit and helped his
father
out. But the youth, overcome by fumes, fell into a
2-foot-deep
